Vancouver Canadians vs Eugene Emeralds

A heartbreaker last night.  After a run of, let’s be honest, not great starts from the Canadians staff, Javier Avendano stopped the bleeding somewhat.  His line doesn’t look overly attractive, but after a few beers, anything is going to look good, and the 1 ER over 5 innings put the C’s in a position to win.  Unfortunately the offense got ambushed by pretty much the entire Emeralds staff.  6 pitchers combined to throw a 6 hitter, striking out 13 C’s.  Christopher Nunn did the most damage, striking out all 6 hitters he faced over 2 perfect innings.  This seems to be par for the course for Nunn.  In 7 appearances for the Ems, he has whiffed 17 over 10.1 innings, for a very healthy K/9 rate.  Nunn was drafted by San Diego in the 24th rnd of this year’s draft.  C’s SS Jason Leblebijian was taken shortly thereafter in the 25th.  In the first meeting between these late draftees, Nunn won the battle, getting JL swinging to send him home with the Sombrero.  The Big Bopper also earned himself a Sombrero.  That ups The BB’s K rate to near 1 in 3 ABs.  Since you can count his walks on one  hand, Fuenmayor’s BB/K ratio is, to put it nicely, unhealthy.  If you wanted to put it not so nicely, you could say it is fucking terrible.

That’s Avendano on the right, am assuming he K’s the Big Bopper in BP as well

I really hope Dalton Pompey comes off the DL soon as I’m getting tired of constantly harping on Balbino’s travails.  Pompey has been on the 7-Day DL for about 3 weeks now with no word as to what the actual injury is.  I need to start introducing myself to the C’s medical staff, as seems only way to actually get info on what afflictions the players have.

The C’s have two more in Eugene before returning home for a 9 game homestand (which includes 4 more against the Emeralds).  These games are important for positioning, in case Everett wins both halves of the season. It is the team with the next best record overall who would take the second playoff position.  So, let’s hope Bobby Bro and co. can get your Van C’s back on level footing tonight.
